Courtenay Park is located opposite Newton Abbot Railway Station, which is a short walk from the town centre, there are also regular buses which link the middle of town to the station providing great access to this wonderful outdoor space.
The park is gently sloping with large grass areas which are dotted with trees, making it perfect for picnics, relaxing or park games. There are seven level pedestrian access points around the parks perimeter which are linked via hard surface paths. Disabled parking and roadside parking can be found around the outskirts of the area. The park has a formal style yet is relaxed, open and appealing, providing the perfect space to get away from the bustling shopping streets in Newton Abbot.
In the centre of the open space sits the bandstand on which concerts are played and events held throughout the year. There is also a fenced in children’s play area which provides a safe and enjoyable environment of children to play, the park contains slides, swings as well as climbing apparatus.
Within Courtenay Park sits a sensory garden, this stimulating space is planted with a variety of plants, flowers and shrubs that are specially selected to excite your senses, giving a thought provoking and relaxed spaced which can be experienced and enjoyed by visitors of all ages. The park and flower beds have been fitted with tactile signs to enable visually impaired visitors to experience the gardens and enjoy exploring the park.
This Green Flag Awarded park also features a pond and fountain, located near the top of the park as well as a bike rack, teen shelter, toilets and Bowling Green.
With wonderful flower beds, open spaces, play park and sensory garden Courtenary Park provides the perfect outside space for a break from exploring the town and everything that Newton Abbot has to offer.
